Designers we Love: Retrouvius

At Opia Design, we love to follow architects and designers who share our vision of sustainability while simultaneously producing a well and beautifully designed product.

This week, we share the work of Adam Hills and Maria Speake of Retrouvius, a salvage and reclamation studio based in West London. Adam manages the salvaging side; collecting sought-after 1950s Italian furniture from gilded Georgian mirrors to vintage glass shades, these pieces go alongside a selection of industrial lighting, salvaged stones such as marble and slate, and hardwood timber. Maria heads up the Architectural Studio.

Together, they produce exquisite spaces - proving that one can create brand new spaces with pieces from the past. Their use of Zellige also brings additional warmth to these interiors.

Retrouvius grew out of a need to demonstrate how to use reclaimed materials & to give people confidence in using salvaged materials in their own home.
